Jeff’s 45-Year Journey of Innovation, Dedication, and Leadership

For 45 years, Jeff has been an integral part of CK Worldwide, playing a pivotal role in its growth, innovation, and global reputation.
A family-owned business since 1967, CK designs and manufactures TIG welding products in Auburn, Washington, USA.
When Jeff joined the company at just eighteen years old, he was unsure which career path he wanted to pursue. What was clear, however, was that CK was already creating industry-changing products with high-performance materials, helping to push TIG welding into the future.
He was drawn to the idea of working in international business, but fresh out of school and with limited means, it was uncertain how he would ever achieve this goal. In those early days, working on a global platform seemed little more than a distant dream.
What Jeff did have, however, was a strong skill set. Having grown up in Germany, he retained fluency in German and French throughout his studies – abilities that would later prove invaluable in his development at CK Worldwide.
Exposed to multiple areas of manufacturing, including machine shop operations, moulding, silver brazing, assembly and, eventually, TIG welding, Jeff’s understanding deepened, as did his passion for the CK products themselves.
While fulfilling orders destined for customers across the globe, Jeff gained first-hand exposure to the international markets CK Worldwide served, reigniting his ambition to pursue a business degree.
Using his own savings, Jeff enrolled at a local college, studying business administration alongside welding classes in the evenings, often after completing a full day’s work.
His dedication quickly paid off. Jeff began assisting with technical sales while being promoted to Production Supervisor. Long before the days of online interpretation tools, he was frequently called upon to translate international correspondence arriving by traditional mail, thanks to his multilingual abilities.
From there, Jeff progressed into an external sales role, focusing primarily on CK’s international customer base. Further promotions followed: Sales Manager, Vice President, culminating in his current role as President, a position he has held since 2009.
Leading with Purpose
CK’s ongoing pursuit of innovation, combined with working alongside a team of dedicated and passionate people, is what drives Jeff every day.
He enjoys developing strategic sales and marketing plans that increase market share, and introducing new product innovations to continually grow CK’s ‘fan base’ – Jeff is referring to the everyday welders and skilled professionals who genuinely get a kick out of using CK products, who say ‘Wow!’ when their jobs suddenly become more productive.
All CK products are designed with the welder in mind, and this is exactly the response they should have.
Jeff also notes that many TIG welders are still using designs introduced in the 1950s. While applications have changed dramatically, much of the competition continues to rely on outdated technology.
Jeff loves seeing welders’ reactions when they encounter a new CK product for the first time, often at trade shows. The response is almost always the same: ‘I didn’t know this even existed’, or ‘I could really use this on the job I’m working on right now.’
Moments like these reaffirm that CK Worldwide is continuing to do things the right way.
Reflections on Success
Looking back on his CK journey, Jeff recalls a time when the brand was largely unknown and held minimal global market share. The company’s transformation into the leading TIG torch brand in North America, and a brand internationally respected for driving innovation and design within a highly specialised market, is what makes him feel most proud.
Above all, Jeff emphasises his pride in the CK Worldwide team, acknowledging that none of this success would have been possible without their collective commitment and expertise.
He also observes that one of the things that gets missed in this type of conversation is ‘relationships’, or connections that have grown over the years.
Rapid Welding and CK Worldwide go back almost 20 years – Rapid is the sole UK supplier. Over that time, not only have we built a growing business relationship, but a personal one as well.
As Jeff says, “Roy and his team have done a fantastic job, and I always look forward to catching up in person when we have the opportunity to meet up somewhere in the world. Whether at a trade show or when I have the time to come and visit them in Portsmouth. I look forward to our continued success for the next 20 years easily!”
