Having undergone chemotherapy and isolation, and with the best possible outcome being a bone marrow donation, we all wanted to do something to help. An office meeting followed, during which it was decided the best way we could show support to our colleague and his family was to give blood and join the British Bone Marrow Registry.<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_913429-07, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_913429-07[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_913429-07\"]{text-align:center;font-style:normal;}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_913429-07 mark.kt-highlight, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_913429-07[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_913429-07\"] mark.kt-highlight{font-style:normal;color:#f76a0c;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;}<\/style>\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading602_913429-07 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_913429-07\"><strong>What is the British Bone Marrow Registry?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7\"]{text-align:center;font-style:normal;}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7 mark.kt-highlight, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7\"] mark.kt-highlight{font-style:normal;color:#f76a0c;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;}<\/style>\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7 wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_b84cc8-b7\">The British Bone Marrow Registry is a division of NHS Blood and Transplant,\u00a0working in co-operation with the other UK bone marrow\/blood donor registries, Anthony Nolan, a charity dedicated to saving the lives of patients needing a stem cell transplant and the NHS Cord Blood Bank. Stem cell donations from cord blood can be made at specialist hospitals within the NHS. It seems like such a small thing to do, but when it affects those close to home, you soon realise what a massive thing it is for someone in need.<\/p>\n\n\n<style>.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a\"]{text-align:center;font-style:normal;}.wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a mark.kt-highlight, .wp-block-kadence-advancedheading.kt-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a[data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a\"] mark.kt-highlight{font-style:normal;color:#f76a0c;padding-top:0px;padding-right:0px;padding-bottom:0px;padding-left:0px;}<\/style>\n<p class=\"kt-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a wp-block-kadence-advancedheading\" data-kb-block=\"kb-adv-heading602_d9f046-2a\">Another of our team is fundraising via the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/crowdfunding.justgiving.com\/AlfiesWish\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Just Giving Crowdfunding website<\/a>. Here&#8217;s a little bit about their situation:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">We&#8217;re raising \u00a310000 to have pre-implantation genetic diagnosis because It could give&nbsp;my Grandson&nbsp;Alfie a happy life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center wp-block-paragraph\">Alfie is a happy 5 year old boy. He has a condition called X-Linked Hyper-Igm Syndrome. \u00a0It&#8217;s a condition that affects the immune system and only occurs in males. Alfie is prone to catching recurrent infections that could be life-threatening, and as such, receives weekly infusions of Immunoglobulin and is on permanent antibiotics.
