One of the most essential pieces of welding equipment is, undisputedly, your welding helmet.
The correct helmet should be selected to meet your welding application requirements, offer complete protection, as well as excellent visibility and comfort when in use, even for longer periods of time.

Available in three versions, the Optrel HELIX is a fully integrated slide up welding and grinding helmet solution with internal ADF and super compact dimensions – well worth a further look if you’re in the market for a new welding helmet, or even, dare we say it, planning your Christmas wish list!

The Optrel Helix range covers the following applications: Stick Welding, (SMAW) / MIG/MAG (GMAW) / GMAW High melting rate process / Flux Cored Wire Welding / TIG Welding (GTAW) / Plasma Arc Welding / Plasma Cutting / Not suitable for gas and laser welding! Grinding with clearview (180° field of view).

In terms of PROTECTION, expect to find it at a maximum for all shade levels. Optical clarity is governed by European Standards for the welding industry, and the standard is known as EN379. These ratings are determined by tests that measure light transmission across the cartridge, as well as lights from the cartridge layers. Ratings are graded on a scale of 1 to 3 in each class. A score of 1 is perfect, while 3 is the worst rating. So, the perfect clarity score is 1/1/1/1.

Additionally, in terms of sensors, welding helmets usually range from 2 sensors to 4 – the more sensors the better coverage! If you’re welding in restricted areas, sensors could be obstructed, so the more, the better. The Helix range operates a five-point multi-detection sensor technology!

The IsoFit® Headgear in the Helix models offer maximum individual adjustment options, with a minimiser function allowing for an even more compact shape when working in tight environments

What about VISIBILITY? With the largest possible field of vision, the auto-darkening lens features a nose cut-out, bringing the glare shield closer to your eyes with up to six times larger field of view.  Optical clarity defines the quality of view you get through the helmet – you wouldn’t buy a cheap pair of sunglasses, so don’t let quality slip when it comes to welding!

COMFORT is everything, so ensuring your helmet is a good fit is so important, especially if you’re wearing it for long periods. The Helix range boasts a flip-up mechanism inside the helmet which ensures weight is kept to a minimum to avoid neck strain.

Let’s look at all the models

Optrel Helix 2.5 – Black Auto Darkening Welding Helmet with Removable Hard Hat

The internal flip-up welding helmet with a panoramic XXL field of view, the Helix 2.5 is the perfect welding helmet when working in difficult conditions, and it comes with some great features and tech.

ShadeTronic means operating with the right shading level comes as standard with this fully automatic functionality. A light sensor permanently measures the intensity of the welding arc, and continuously regulates the glare protection over the entire shading level range.

Fadetronic: Fade-out when switching off the protection level after welding, which protects your eyes and promotes fatigue-free work.

Optrel Helix Quattro – Black Auto Darkening Welding Helmet with Removable Hard Hat

Designed for extreme performance.

Ideal for the most difficult of welding tasks, even in extremely forced positions or viewing angles, the Quattro combines all the features of the 2.5 but with a protection level range of 4 to 14 and the optically highest classification according to EN379 – 1/1/1/1!

Enjoy Crystal Lens Technology 2.0 with the Helix CLT. Designed for extreme performance, and with a protection level range from 7 to 12, this is the ideal helmet if you need the practical slide-up function to switch between different tasks, and also want a large field of view with extremely bright and true colour vision when welding.

The Helix range can also be adapted for use with the Swiss Air TH3 PAPR system from Optrel – PAPR (Powered Air Purifying Respirator) are air-fed helmets which supply filtered air back into the helmet to ensure the welder does not breathe in welding fumes.
